Marcela took up golf 11 years ago when she retired from the escrow/title insurance industry and it has been one of her passions since then. She served on the board of Big Brothers and Big Sisters of North County in the early 90’s, so she knows the value of mentors and role models for young people – a perfect match to become involved with Pro Kids | The First Tee San Diego. She was introduced to the program when she and her husband, Charles, lived in Pleasanton, CA, and he was a board member of the local First Tee. Ms. Smith became involved with Girls Mentoring Committee at Pro Kids | The First Tee San Diego about a year ago and enjoys doing art projects and fun activities with the girls.
Marcela is a member of the Golf Committee and is involved in the leadership of the Santaluz Women’s Golf Association at The Santaluz Club, which recently hosted a ‘Home & Home’ with the young women of Pro Kids | The First Tee San Diego in June.
“I am very impressed with the programs and events that Pro Kids | The First Tee San Diego creates for the underserved children in San Diego. Yes, it’s a program about golf, but it also provides the kids with a variety of rewarding experiences and teaches them skills that ultimately help them get into college and live happy and productive lives,” said Ms. Smith.
Beyond her work with the Girls Mentoring Committee and The Women’s Golf Association at The Santaluz Club, Ms. Smith takes her love of golf to yet another level – writing a blog called Girlfriends Guide to Golf
